Richardson started
his career aged 16, as an apprentice Diamond-mounter in the traditional surroundings
of London's Hatton Garden in 1978. The urge for colour eventually led him to
enamel and he produced distinctive collections for retail clients and exhibited
in London, Munich, New York and Las Vegas from 1993 to 2003. In early
2004 he moved with his family to South Australia and recently opened his shop,
Richardsons, in Adelaide.
"I
find that particular combinations of colours can provoke memories and transport
us through time, in the way a piece of music does. As a child I made powerful
associations between colour, moods and ideas. I try to revisit these associations
in my work and hope to find the less obvious partnerships between stones, metal
and enamel".
